SYMPTOMS

Archive Manager indicates a store on an RDX drive is offline and unavailable after the cartridge is inserted. A plan that targets a store on an RDX drive may not run unless the All Stores folder is refreshed prior to starting the plan.

CAUSE

On Enterprise systems that use RDX devices, A DATASTOR registry key may contain incorrect volume information. To verify, open registry editor and navigate to the HKLM\Software\dataStor\Volumes key. With the Volumes key selected, a correct Volumes key would contain only a (Default) value in the right pane of Registry Editor, plus one or more subkeys below the Volumes key in the left pane, one for each RDX cartridge. No stores subkey should exist. See Figure A.

Figure A: Correct Volumes key

With the Volumes key selected, an incorrect Volumes key would contain a set of entries in the right pane of Registry Editor, and possibly a stores subkey. For example, see Figure B.

Figure B: Incorrect Volumes values and stores subkey are highlighted

RESOLUTION

For systems that contain the invalid registry entries above, the Volumes registry key must be repaired. Follow the steps below:

1. Open the Windows Services console. STOP the DATASTOR services.

2. Open the registry editor (regedit) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ SOFTWARE / dataStor / Volumes. Before modifying the registry, export it in case you need to revert to it.

3. Remove the highlighted entries in Figure B from the registry, if present. That is, with the Volumes key selected in the left pane, select each value in the right pane, except the (Default) value, right click and delete it. Once finished, if a stores subkey exists in the left pane below the Volumes key, right click and delete it.

4. Start the DATASTOR services. Open Archive Manager.

STATUS

A hotfix has been rolled into the 5.0 build of the software to prevent this behavior in at least one case. If incorrect registry entries are found in the registry, the Volumes key would still need to be repaired.
